Happy Birthday Matthew 5/2/97

Matthew Fraser

For those of you who knew my son Matthew Fraser and his long battle with life, he lost his battle on January 17, 2017. Over his life he had at least 30 stays in the intensive care unit dispite that he was a happy child. His brother Albert wrote a nice piece on facebook I thought I would share. Rest in peace Matthew.

For those of you who never met him, this is my brother, Matthew Joseph Fraser. He was born with two rare chromosomal disorders: 4P Minus and Trisomy 8. This morning, after almost a month long battle in the hospital, he lost. He was no longer able to breathe on his own, along with many other medical issues that kept coming up, so he was taken off the intubation and was allowed to pass peacefully without pain or suffering. When he was born, we were told he would live a maximum of six months. He astoundingly beat the odds and lived to the age of 19. He would have been 20 in May. He was unable to speak, or even do most of the things many of us take for granted. Despite this, he was an inspiration to many of us and taught us a great deal about life, and he especially taught me how to love unconditionally and show compassion and care for others no matter who they were or what they looked like. Matthew, because of his condition and the many things that came with that, was in and out of the hospital many times in his life. By our standards, he had a tough life. Yet, he was one of happiest kids I've met. Despite the adversity he faced, he seemed to still love life and show love for those around him. This brings me to the most important thing he taught me: life can be unbelievably hard, but always appreciate it while it's here, because it's a beautiful thing to have. I love you Matthew, and you will be deeply missed, by myself and many others. Rest In Peace.
